The White Egret

A few months before I left Korea, I saw a beautiful white egret sitting on the peak of our Korean tile roof; for a long time she was looking down at me.  She was so beautiful–like a sculpture.  I felt I had to climb up on the roof to look at her from close up, but I must have gotten too close and she flew away.   When I came down from the roof, I noticed that she was up there again.  I was so happy to see her again and we looked at each other for a long time before she finally flew away. I still remember her brilliant white feathers and her statuesque figure, maybe  she was saying farewell to me before I had to take leave of my beloved house and country.

Memories

When I was a little girl, I loved going out to the field, chasing butterflies or finding  the flowers  I loved so much:  big red dragonflies, tiny mosquito dragonflies, swallow violets, and my favorite flower, the granny flower. The big red dragonflies had such an intricate web of wings that it seemed as if someone made them out of lace and red silken threads. The tiny mosquito dragonflies were so small and transparent,  I had to pay all my attention if I wanted to chase them around. As mentioned, my most loved flower was the granny flower; it was covered with lots of white hairs and its back was curved.  Even the young ones had the same features. Thinking back to all these happy memories, I wanted to integrate them into my art work.
